Prepping Guide For Beginners

By taking the time to develop an Emergency Preparedness Checklist, you will be better prepared to deal with possible disasters that can cause damage to your home or car. This type of checklist is designed to help you prepare for the unexpected in a way that saves time and allows you to get back to your regular routine without extra stress on your budget. The following information includes a few steps that will help you in preparing for emergencies.

The first step in creating a checklist is to ensure that you have a first aid kit at home. It is always wise to have the tools you need to address emergency needs in your home, as well as to keep a supply of food and water close by.

The second step in creating an Emergency Preparedness Checklist is to have a battery powered radio available to help in an emergency. A portable radio that has a transmitter that you can use during a power outage can help you stay connected to first responders. Make sure to include these tools in your emergency kit, so that you will always be aware of what is going on in your area.

Third, you will want to include communication equipment in your list of tools to consider. Some examples include cell phones, headphones, DVD players, GPS systems, cell phone chargers, portable printers, and a laptop computer that has an Internet connection.

Fourth, you will want to ensure that you have a sufficient supply of water, both water for drinking and for preparation. If you live in an area where there is likely to be flooding, this can be a major consideration, especially if you are dependent on a well for drinking water.

Fifth, you will want to include tools such as light bulbs, flashlights, whistles, candles, matches, batteries, matches, an extra set of clothes, and flashlights. You may also want to include camping equipment such as camping gear, cooking equipment, tarps, chairs, and lanterns. You may also want to include a flashlight in your emergency preparedness checklist.

Sixth, you will want to consider non-perishable food to take along when you are on the road. This can include toilet paper, jams, peanut butter, jelly, candies, and energy bars.

Seventh, you will want to consider your cell phone plan and what it provides. Most plans are prepaid, but you may want to look at unlisted numbers. Unlisted numbers are usually prepaid plans, but you will need to call ahead of time to find out what your plan is.

Eighth, you will want to consider water-purification tablets, as well as a container for storing water. It is smart to have a supply of clean water on hand, even if it is just a few cans of water. You will be better able to address an emergency situation when you know that you are able to access water.

Ninth, consider placing a “Do Not Turn Off” sign on a door knob, an electrical circuit breaker, a fire extinguisher, and a smoke detector. You never know when these types of devices can be the difference between life and death. Always have a backup plan should these types of devices fail to work properly.

Tenth consider other tools such as keys and emergency contact information. Having contact information for family members and friends is especially important when you are far away from them. They can keep you updated on your whereabouts or help get you back to them if you do happen to become lost.

As you can see, there are a number of tools you can add to your list of tools in order to better prepare for an emergency. It may be that one or more of these items will be required in an emergency.
